swami gururetnam's introducing Naalayku Oru Maram

In a collective effort to strengthen the ecosystem and preserve biodiversity, Santhigiri Ashram, in collaboration with Green Globe Volunteers and the All Kerala Mammootty Fans & Welfare Association, launched the environmental initiative “Naaleykku Oru Maram” (A Tree for Tomorrow), aimed at promoting tree planting and ecological sustainability across Kerala.

The state-level inauguration of the program was held at the Neyyattinkara Government Guest House, where Padma Shri Bharat Dr. Mammootty ceremoniously handed over the first tree sapling to Swami Gururethnam Jnana Thapaswi, General Secretary of Santhigiri Ashram, marking the formal beginning of this large-scale environmental awareness campaign.

As part of the first phase, the initiative plans to distribute five lakh saplings free of cost throughout Kerala. Distribution is coordinated through Santhigiri District Offices, along with schools, colleges, and cooperative institutions in every panchayat. With the support of the Kerala Forest Department, more than 50,000 saplings—including mahogany, bamboo, teak, and over 20 other species—have been stocked in each district.

The second phase of Naaleykku Oru Maram focuses on transforming unused land into mini forests and establishing Nakshatra Vanams (Zodiac Forests) around religious and community spaces. The project also proposes irrigation support in selected areas to ensure sapling survival and growth. Additionally, barren lands will be identified and converted into productive cultivation zones, reinforcing the initiative’s long-term commitment to biodiversity conservation and sustainable ecological development.
