Santhigiri Swami Gururethnam Jnana Thapaswi was born on 30th May 1974 in Cherthala, Alappuzha district, Kerala, to Mr. M.K. Maniyan Nair, an employee of FACT in Aluva, and Mrs. J. Santhamma. He was the third child in the family and received his early education at FACT School, Udyogamandal, and later in Ernakulam.
A turning point in his spiritual journey came in the same year when he had a transformative meeting with Navajyothisree Karunakara Guru. Guru later visited his home, and this spiritual encounter deeply impacted him. Gradually, Swami Gururethnam, revered by many as Guruji, became involved in Santhigiri Ashram activities and took on the responsibility of distributing Ashram-produced medicines across Kerala. He also became a leading presence in the Ashram’s youth forum.
On 13th September 2003, he was inducted as a member of the Ashram’s Director Board, continuously guiding its mission with devotion and dedication. He was appointed as the Organizing Secretary of Santhigiri Ashram on 20th May 2009 and General Secretary on 9th September 2019, in recognition of his visionary leadership and service to spiritual life.
Santhigiri Swami Gururethnam has led transformative initiatives in cultural and moral education, especially aimed at the younger generation and marginalized communities. Through youth programs, workshops and public engagements, Swami Gururethnam, widely revered as Guruji, has emphasized the importance of ethical development, cultural rootedness and spiritual awareness as vital for national and personal progress.
His efforts have enabled thousands to reconnect with their heritage while embracing modern responsibilities with clarity and compassion. By democratizing access to cultural knowledge, Santhigiri Swami Gururethnam continues to make spiritual education a powerful tool for social upliftment and transformation.
